Adding Photos to Your News Publisher and Blog Tools
Add a Little Life to Your Articles!
Your well-written articles and blog posts may get a little more attention if they are accompanied by a photograph or two. Before you can upload an image, in most cases, it must first be optimized and/or resized. Be sure you have followed the tutorial Preparing Images For Your Website before proceeding.
Preparing Your Photos For Upload
- Your photo should (typically) not be any larger than 175 pixels wide with a proportionate height.
- The size or weight of the photo should be less than 20kb.
- You know where to find (on your computer) the photo you have optimized and wish to upload.
Things to Avoid
While the OneAdmin/Webeze system will allow you to:
- Upload pictures that are larger than 175 pixels (width and/or height).
- Upload pictures that weigh more than 20kb.
- Resize by using the resize handle tools.
Please don’t. The reasons why are:
- The photo will overwhelm (be too big for) the article.
- The photo will add unnecessary weight to the page, which could make for a slow download.
- The photo can look distorted and though it appears to be smaller, the original file size remains. Thus, if you upload a 200kb picture with dimensions of 600x400, even if you resize it (using resize handle tools) to 175x150 (for example), the file weight remains 200kb. This could mean your page, along with all of the other attributes of the page (graphics, menu system, etc.), could weigh 250-200kb or more. Not a good idea!
Importing Your Photos
We've created a movie to demonstrate the instructions below. Please VIEW THE MOVIE first and then return to this page to review the steps below:
- Open your Webeze/OneAdmin News Publisher or Blogging Module
- Open up a previously created article or blog
- Put your cursor in the insertion point that you want your photo to appear (cursor should be at the far left of the content area)
- Click on the image icon
- Browse to path where photo is stored (newly created folder or already uploaded image)
- Click upload. (Consider creating new folders within your OneAdmin directory to store your photos as over time it may get hard to manage.)
- After uploaded it will be the last item in the list of uploads
- Click on it to bring up the settings panel
- Set Alternative text (a few words that describe the photo)
- Set alignment (right or left are standard)
- Set vertical spacing (usually 0 or 2)
- Set horizontal spacing (usually 15-20 if right alignment; about 5-10 if left alignment)
- Set border to zero (don’t leave blank); a value of 1 will give your photo a nice border, if desired
- Save/Update
- Open a new window and preview your work in your favorite browser
