I’m Banking on it

iphone-imageOne of the main reasons why I switched banks was for the convenience of using my iPhone to make deposits.  I mean how cool is it that you can take a picture of a check and — voila! — you’ve just made a deposit.  Think of the money you have saved by driving to the bank not to mention time and energy (especially in the dog days of an Arizona summer)!

Alas, with every convenience there always seems to be a couple of downsides.  For me, they are:

  1. Deposit limits.  Now, I’m no Rockefeller, but a monthly deposit limit of $3,000.00 seems a bit low for even the most modest business.  Lucky for me, the bank is just up the street a few blocks so it’s a good excuse to go for a walk.
  2. Wild and crazy signatures.  I love a good flourish as much as the next person, but I can tell you when those swooshes dip down into the Account/Routing area of a check, my banking app almost always flags my deposit with: “There is a problem with your deposit.”  Sometimes I am able to scan it again with success, but more often than not, I am instructed to go to the bank. Which defeats the purpose because that’s why I switched banks.

I realize these are very small matters in the grand scheme of the world, but sometimes banks and similar institutions just make me crazy. What makes you crazy about your bank?
