As I was hunkering down last Saturday morning to begin a productive day of work, my computer suddenly shut down. My attempts to reboot were moot. It simply would not power on. Because I run daily backups of my most important files plus weekly backups of all files (on an external hard drive), I wasn’t overwhelmed with panic, though I was certainly annoyed that my so-called productive day had just come to a screeching halt and looming deadlines would possibly be missed.

Up until 2 years ago, I lived my entire life in California where when people talked about rock-n-roll they were referring to earthquakes and not the great music! Because of the frequency of earthquakes we experienced and the anticipation of the next “big one,” many of us had earthquake preparedness kits. That way, if we did suffer from a major earthquake, we had enough supplies to last us a good long while, because just like in any disaster, more people tend to be lost in the aftermath rather than the main event.
